Mysterious Al – ‘monsters’

We’ve happily been commissioned to print a load of stuff for Al’s latest London exhibition. The show ‘Doomsday Papers’ is on at Stolen Space gallery, full details here, it runs from 4/3/11 – 27/3/11, get along to the Opening Night Thursday 3rd March 18:00

…The Stolen Space press release describes ‘The Doomsday Papers’  as the “eagerly-awaited debut solo show by Mysterious Al. This brand new body of work loosely surrounds Mesoamerican Gods, the doomsday calendar, Drum & Bass, demonic intervention, Graffiti culture, Wicca and the Occult. In mixed media including wood, paint, newspaper, magazines, torn Bible pages and installation.”

Once again we were very pleased to be called upon by Al to help realise some of his ideas, printing onto cracked and battered hand-painted boards, created a very effective result.

The outcome looks amazing, 7 monsters (sorry Amy, sorry Kate) each executed in 3 colour ways, screenprinted onto boards which are layered up with paint/collaged literature/varnish. Photos really don’t do these justice, you need to get your nose right up against them, smell the solvents, see the detail, the depth of layers, the shards of colour show through, the rips and tears, the odd word poking through- If Photoshop had an ‘old horror movie scratch-up filter’ this is how it would look- nice!

Also created by us for Al, were some slightly more well behaved prints on paper, the Amy prints on A1 Stockwell cartridge paper, each of these is hand-finished/painted by Al before it came to us to stick the black halftone over the top. These are extremely limited, with only a handful of each of the 5 colorways created- these will get snapped up on the night!

OK so since this went to press- Amy Winehouse is no longer with us- Anyway you may have seen the Mysterious Al screenprint of Amy slapped over every news channel and press over the last week or so:

RIP
